Manga Entertainment UK had a few new licenses of note this weekend at the MCM Expo in London and definitely picked up some shows that will do well and continues to show their attempts at getting more Blu-ray TV series releases out there. The company picked up the rights to Dragon Ball GT, which will get two sets released in 2014 in January and March on DVD. They also picked up the rights to Psycho-Pass, the recent noitaminA series, and it will get two releases on both DVD and Blu-ray in 2014 with the first one planned for the spring. The big announcement from them was the acquisition of Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo, which has a set month of March 2014 on separate DVD and Blu-ray.
Dragon Ball GT: Goku, the hero who destroyed the evil of Frieza, Cell, and Buu in DBZ, learns that an old foe, Emperor Pilaf from DB has captured the 7 magical Black Star Dragon Balls, which, at the cost of the planet the balls are on, can grant any wish. Pilaf wishes that Goku is a child, and Goku becomes a child. In order to save both the planet and restore Goku to adulthood, Goku must allign himself with Trunks and his granddaughter Pan to find all 7 Balls all over the universe. Over time, they encounter foes like Baby, Super 17, and the invincible Shadow Dragons.
Taking place 10 years after the final Dragonball Z story, Pilaf finally manages to get all 7 dragonballs and makes a wish. Unfortunately for Pilaf, he gets flustered by the presence of Goku and wishes for Goku to be a child again so that Pilaf could “teach him a lesson.” Pilaf gets his wish, and Goku is off on an interstellar trip to gather the 7 “Black Star Dragonballs” that can reverse the wish and return him to adulthood.
Psycho-Pass: The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person’s state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term “Psycho-Pass” refers to a standard used to measure an individual’s being. The story centers around the “enforcement officer” Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.
In the future, it is possible to quantitatively measure a person’s emotions, desires, and every inclination. In this way, it is also possible to measure a person’s criminal tendency factor, which is used to judge criminals.
This is the story of a team of policemen dedicated to maintaining public order. Some of them work in the Enforcement Division, responsible for the apprehension of criminals, while others belong to the Supervisory Division which oversees their colleagues in Enforcement.
Evangelion 3.33: 14 years after third impact, Ikari Shinji awakens to a world he does not remember. He hasn’t aged. Much of Earth is laid in ruins, Nerv has been dismantled, and people who he once protected have turned against him. Befriending the enigmatic Nagisa Kaworu, Shinji continues the fight against the angels and realizes the fighting is far from over, even when it could be against his former allies. The characters’ struggles continue amidst the battles against the angels and each other, spiraling down to what could inevitably be the end of the world.
