Yes, I know that there are countless Star Wars books, toys, and games. But have you stopped to notice the proliferation of Star Wars references in children’s literature? It’s only going to get better as continuing waves of fanboys and fangirls publish books for kids.
I’ve mentioned the wonderfully wacky Origami Yoda series before. As a reminder, the Secret of the Fortune Wookiee arrives in August. His books are even featured in this month’s Star Wars Insider magazine.
I’ve also showcased the reference filled and adorable Darth Vader and Son. My sons loved that book, and are watching the original trilogy with sharper eyes and declaring, “That scene was in the book!”
What I didn’t expect was to find a fantastically detailed Star Wars scene in a pink filled graphic novel about a mouse named Babymouse. Since a new Babymouse book comes out in July, my Nerdy Book Club friends online were creating “Babymouse for President” pictures. I decided I wanted to join in the fun, and started reading the books. In her book “Burns Rubber”, she imagines herself barreling toward the Death Star. I got inspired, and created a photo set to celebrate her Star Wars mission.
Here are a few of my favorites in addition to my header.
Babymouse – She IS the mouse you’re looking for!
Stay on Target!
Just like Yoda, Babymouse is small and mighty!
I’ve since discovered that other Babymouse books feature Star Trek, Narnia, Tolkien, and more. She captured my heart forever, though, when she daydreamed herself as Luke – with her best friend Wilson swooping in on the Millennium Falcon.
Where have you discovered your favorite Star Wars references? Share them with us here. Until next week – may the Force be with you!
