With a lot of pressure on Warner Bros. when it comes to their large stable of superhero properties they have, the whole Justice League venture proves to be problematic for a lot of reasons. They have to get things going but there are so many cogs in motion that don’t play well together. The latest word out of Variety indicates that the studio has sent the recent screenplay from Will Beall to Ben Affleck to take a look at to gauge his interest in taking on the property. While there are many that play on Affleck’s long and varied career for humor, he’s gained a lot of respect in the last several yeras for his directorial work with large and diverse casts on The Town and Gone Baby Gone and is set for a strong fall debut of Argo.
While the upcoming Superman movie is in play, Warner Bros. is in a position to do a reverse of what Marvel Studios has done by kicking things off with the big team project and then going towards individual films thereafter, which would make for an ideal relaunch point with Batman and potentially tie it into the new Superman movie if it can be worked out. Everything else could work smoothly from there. But unlike the polished animation division, the theatrical side continues to not have a single guiding force to steer the projects together like Marvel Studios does and that makes any approach problematic until they do this.
