After about a year of teases and essentially near confirmations, things have finalized as Dwayne Johnson announced today that he’s taking on the role of Black Adam in the upcoming聽Shazam film that still hasn’t been formally announced yet. Johnson has been circling a comic book role for several years like this and he’s talked extensively about his attraction to the聽Shazam property, which had people wondering if he was going for the title role or for the more varied villain role of Black Adam.

The tweet below basically cements that.

In his time in the past year, he’d laid out what he wanted out of a character in order to take on what should be a sizable role that could make for an engaging villain, stating that:

1. He had to play an emotionally rich character
2. He had to play a character never seen before on the big screen in live-action
3. He had to be a “badass motherfucker” who could take Superman on in a fight

While a lot of people figured it would be Lobo based on some of the initial aspects, Black Adam definitely fits the bill far better.
