Dolphinium

Before summarizing a bit of prior knowledge might be needed. This is not an American cartoon but an English dub of a Spanish cartoon from Chile. Also I’m Canadian but I imagine no one cares. Now you can forget that bit of knowledge as it plays no part in the 1 minute episode proper. Moving along.

We begin the short episode with an establishing shot of the building where McClane works. A prejudiced human is cursing the world for making him hide his bigotry. That or he’s complaining about work. He then walks into the same room as McClane who, in case the title didn’t give it away, is a dolphin. Both McClane and prejudiced human proceed to prove themselves to be jerks. McClane then cures cancer (seriously) prejudiced boss person congratulates for one second and feeds him an anchovy. One would think such a feat would be worth at least a moment of pause but the show would rather treat it as a one-off gag. Anyway, McClane then vows to overthrow his human oppressors. Clearly, we are meant to root for him!

In summary:
This is much more entertaining than I give it credit for. The animation and character designs are refreshingly different. Aside from the above mildly tasteless joke, the humor works mostly and the episode as a whole was a breath of fresh air. If this is representative of shows from Chile as a whole, I sincerely hope we get to see more animation from this country at some point. For now, Fin Punch should tide me over.
