Sentai Filmworks has helped to kick off Anime Weekend Atlanta 2011 in just the right way with multiple license announcements. Considered to be the last of the big conventions every year that’s dedicated solely to anime (New York Comic-Con tends to be more manga oriented with the New York Anime Festival side), it’s one of the last chances to do a big announcement in a convention setting as anything else will be done through splashy online promotions. Not one to disappoint, Sentai Filmworks has added several new things for 2012 that are due in solicitation form soon enough.
First, they’ve announced the acquisition of The World God Only Knows for both season and will be bringing it out on both DVD and Blu-ray in January 2012. The dual format release has indicated dubs in the past and is likely true once again for this one, so we get the series dubbed. Find more discussion on this announcement here .
Second, they’ve announced the acquisition of the Towa no Quon movie which is also due for a January 2012 release. Details aren’t in at the moment about release formats, but you can find more discussion on this acquisition news here as it happens. The BONES animated series was released in June of this year.
Third, they’ve announced the acquisition of Akikan!, a twelve episode series from Brain’s Base based on the light novel and manga series from Shueisha by Riku Ranjo. It originally aired back in the first quarter of 2009. Discussion on this release can be found here .
Fourth, they’ve announced the acquisition of Soredmo Machi wa Mawatteiru, which will be called An Yet The Town Moves for its release here. The twelve episode series ran in the fourth quarter of 2010 and is a Shaft show helmed by Akiyuki Shinbo based on the manga of the same name by Masakazu Ishiguro that’s ongoing in Young King OURs. Discussion on this release can be found here .
Fifth, Princess Resurrection will be getting a new release and this one will have the series dubbed.
In other Sentai Filmworks news, the following was posted to Twitter from the panel by gaijINside (Twitter) :
- OTHER THINGS: HOTD Bluray is their only best-selling BD title (more than the DVDs), Daimo’s simulcast success is the reason it got a dub.
- Persona 4 anime getting the VAs from the game? In consideration. No other previous release will get the Blu treatment after Clannad ATM
- More Golgo 13 in 2012. Also, Allison to Lillia is NOT getting a dub. They are pursuing the GS Mikami movie
