The rumors going around about Christina Hendricks for the role of Wonder Woman aren’t anything new as they started up quite awhile ago and were amusing misconstrued when she ended up doing the voice for the Lois Lane in the All-Star Superman feature released earlier this year. Her name has come up before in regards to both the TV and theatrical aspirations that many have for the character and it’s being reinforced again as the man behind the film Bronson, Nicolas Winding Refn, is talking about how, if he gets his hands on the movie project as he seems to be keen on, he’d cast her in the title role of Diana Prince, the legendary Wonder Woman.
“If I ever get to do [the “Wonder Woman” movie], she’s going to be it,” Refn said of Hendricks according to MTV Splash Pag e.
While I am personally quite a fan of Hendricks, going back to her work in Firefly which was just delightful, I still have a hard time picturing her in this role. It’s also easy to see that she’d make for a better Power Girl than a Wonder Woman, but that’s more just physicality than anything else. She doesn’t seem quite right for either character when it comes to capturing their personality and in the case of Wonder Woman, gravitas that she’s supposed to have. Refn may see something different though as he definitely has the right idea of what’s at the core of Wonder Woman with her background.
“The whole idea of a woman who is basically more powerful than any man — and who will always be that, and comes from a society of women who are more powerful than men — is an interesting theme that I think can be very contemporary.”
