My Wife is the Student Council President Episode #06 Anime Review Mom’s home!

What They Say:
The story begins with Izumi Hayato running to be student body president. But when a beautiful girl swings in promising the liberalization of love while flinging condoms into the audience, he ends up losing to her and becoming the vice president. At the student council meeting, the newly-elected president invites herself over to Izumi’s house, where she promptly announces she is to become Izumi’s wife thanks to an agreement – facilitated by alcohol – made between their parents when they were only 3.

With some good material the last time around where Misumi’s antics and Ui’s misunderstandings messed things up, this episode brings us to an area that really makes me cringe. Whenever we get an older character presented as looking younger than the high school students we have, it’s just bad looking. Hence Ui’s mother Wakana arriving and Izumi just in shock over it. Wakana has arrived to check up on her daughter to be sure, but she’s also got some ulterior motives as she’s moving in to help out a bit. She naturally gets involved in a lot of things here to try and get a feel for the situation that she knows exists but also getting a look at what Izumi himself is like. Naturally, there’s a lot of awkward fanservice moments to be had here as well because of the visual presentation of Wakana, and plenty of pratfalls as well that lead to misunderstandings.

The show works through familiar things here as we get Izumi put into these compromising positions, but it also knows enough to make sure that we get time with Ui and Izumi together by themselves. She helps out in trying to de-stress him from dealing with her mother since she can be a lot to take. There’s some good mellow moments between the two as well as some good fun. Just having a couple of seconds spent on a tickle fight between the two of them is great, and not just for the fanservice. It’s these kinds of silly moments that make a couple sometimes. But yes, it’s also fun in how well it turns dirty along the way, making for a different kind of welcome bonding to see between the two of them.

In Summary:
The series goes light on the fanservice for the most part during the bulk of this episode, though we get a touch of it with Wakana that’s just very awkward and unsettling because you know they’re trying to push buttons here. When it shifts to time between our two main leads though, it has a good mix of serious and silly as well as their budding romance that Izumi isn’t quite on board with yet. The show is one that’s definitely an acquired taste to say the least but it has some very humanizing moments throughout it that really makes it engaging to watch in a way that a lot of series are afraid to approach, since it goes against the whole dynamic of teasing the audience without forcing anyone to make a choice or become unhappy with the results.
