Sometimes information comes in quicker than expected, which is always welcome when it’s good news. After learning that Hunter x Hunter was going to resume publication in the next couple of months, Weekly Shonen Jump is announcing that the series will resume in the 27th issue of the magazine on June 2nd. The news comes with a new tagline for the return, stating, “What is being aimed for is darkness. What is being hunted is hope. What blocks the way is endless despair.”
Yoshihiro Togashi has gone on hiatus a few times over the years since Hunter x Hunter began in 1998, which has culminated in 340 chapters so far. The series went on its most recent hiatus in 2012 which was compiled into the thirty-second volume of the series – which Viz Media just released here in North America. When the series does kick off, it will run simultaneously in the English digital edition that Viz Media brings out.
The property originally received an anime adaptation early on in 1999 with a 62 episode run that was followed a few years later by a 30 episode OVA series. It was relaunched in 2011 under Madhouse where they started from the beginning again and played closer to the manga. It’s currently run 125 episodes and generated two feature films in 2013, all while no new manga was coming out for the most part.
