That escalated quickly will be the motto here.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
While I enjoy a lot of short-form series I’m admittedly more partial towards the ones that don’t run at a frantic pace to get things done. This series introduces us to the sisters Somera and Kukuru as they deal with the curveballs that life throws them. Somera’s actually got a bit of an ability with a special kenpo skill that elevates her in the world in a way. Not that we get much of that here as a lot of the focus is on the sisters, plus “friend” Shizuku, trying to deal with the meager three grains of rice that they have in order to enjoy a meager meal. It’s weirdly silly in that kind of “what the hell” way. It runs from weird moment to weird moment without really being truly weird. It’s mostly just nonsensical in terms of story, which is part for the course with a lot of shows of this nature.
In Summary:
While the series has has some good designs to it and a sense of style that lets it stand out against your regular shows, Magical Somera-chan is the kind of show where it wants to yell a lot and act out more than anything else while doing its weird bits along the way. Or rather, trying to be weird. It’s not horrible by any stretch of the imagination compared to some other shows that I’ve seen, but it’s the kind that needs to ease it down a bit and really figure out what it wants to do and be.
