What They Say

Early promotional material compared Conquering the Queen to Berserk, and I don’t think that comparison is necessarily wrong. Players will need to understand that they won’t be playing as the heroic, conflicted Guts. You’ll be playing as the equivalent of the evil Griffith, Vincent Conquer, a self-described heartless SOB. You are evil, and enjoy being evil. And as this is an eroge, it’s not hard to imagine what this entails.
The game is a basic visual novel, with static backgrounds and paper dolls representing the characters. The characters have a nice elaborate, almost 1990s style design about them, and the cast includes all of the favorite eroge archetypes. There’s the virginal princess, the tomboy, the elegant warrior woman, the “older woman”, and a loli-looking sorcerer. Aside from the paper dolls, there are the expected CG illustrations for sex scenes and crucial scenes in the plot. These are just as detailed as the art for the paper dolls, and readers will be happy to know they are also uncensored. Only the female cast has voice acting, but the actresses do an admirable job. Their cries for help were very convincing, almost to the point of being disturbing. Music is a mixed bag, with some tracks sounding appropriate for the medieval period, and others sounding discordantly electronic, like something out of a cop show. The translation is very well done, although some of the more ridiculous sexual euphemisms broke the mood. If I never read the term “pork sword” again, I think I’ll do just fine.
Conquering the Queen can best be thought of as an eroge, rather than a visual novel. The story is a fairly simple one of conquest, and in my playthrough, I encountered only 4 decision points where my input was needed to proceed. However, those looking for sex scenes need look no further, as they are plentiful. However, they are all rape-themed. My tastes tend to lie 180 degrees in the opposite direction, so I personally did not find this appealing. For those interested in this type of material, there’s a good bit of variety, with threesomes, group rape, and all manner of violence, deceit, and trickery. Due to the amount of rape scenes, however, it’s hard to recommend this title in terms of story. It’s a fetish eroge, no more, no less, as promised by the title.
In Summary
A by the books fetish eroge for those with the desire to conquer. Attractive designs and varied sex scenes will make sure those who enjoy this material are entertained. All others should stay away, as you’ll more than likely find this game dull, due to its limited interactivity, or downright disturbing.
