After many, many years in print, it looks like Neon Genesis Evangelion‘s TV series is finally going out of print according to a news item over on Right Stuf. The TV series was one of the earliest and biggest hits from ADV Films in the 90s, back when you’d get two episodes to a VHS tape for $20-$30 depending on whether you wanted dubbed or subbed at your local Suncoast. The series has seen numerous releases over the years on DVD and having done some convention booth time myself selling anime titles, let me tell you, there are always people looking over the sets and picking them up because they never actually owned it. This series is the epitome of what an evergreen title is. The show has had several types of DVD releases in the last few years and it’s hard to imagine that unless the license has been lost (which is not what’s been stated, at least publicly at this point) that it will remain out of print for too long.
